Banned Books Week - Sept. 23 to 30

It may surprise you to know that Harry Potter is at the top of the list of the most challenged books of 21st Century. A challenge is an attempt to remove or restrict materials because of the objections of a person or group. Sometimes a challenged book is baned or removed.

When a person challenges a book they are doing more than expressing their point of view. A challenge is an attempt to remove materal from the school curriculum, the media center or a public library. The following is a lsit of teh top 10 most challenged books from 2000-2005 and the Harry Potter series leads the pack.

1. Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
2. The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier
3. Alice series by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
4. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
5. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
6. Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers
7. It's Perfectly Normal by Robie Harris
8. Scary Stories series by Alvin Schwartz
9. Captain Underpants series by Dav Pilkey
10. Forever by Judy Blume

Why is of mice and men on the ban booked list?? That book is a classic book of fre=iendship, trust, and betryal.

I agree with Duke92...why is it on theree? That's just weird...

I can understand why Harry Potter is...maybe for many moral/religious reasons?...Not sure though!

I can understand why Harry Potter and Captain Underpants were banned,..... Harry potter for religious reasons, and Captain Underpants, because there isn't really much you can learn morally from it,.....

But WHY Of Mice and Men?? We read that book last year in school, and it had good lessons to learn from it.... The ending is kind of sad, but so is the ending to Romeo and Juliet.
