Soldier Front by ijji

Live and fight as a soldier... "follow a soldier's perspective in every aspect possible to create the most realistic and unique experience anyone can have" (http://sfront.ijji.com/index.nhn)

This is the basis of what Soldier Front was created and developed for.

Mrs. Harrigan was kind enough to tell me about a fairly popular online military FPS (first person shooter) called Soldier Front by ijji. I was told that Soldier Front was being played by quite a few people in the library, so I thought I would give it a try.

First and foremost, the specs...

Basic Specs:
In order to begin playing Soldier Front, you first need an account with ijji.com so that you can play SF and many of the other free online games. After the installation of basic software, and logging onto the standard online lobbies, channels, and rooms, you have to create and customize your own soldier using points awarded along with your very own codename.

Customizing your Character/Weapons:

Choose your DESTINY...

Controls:

It isn't as hard as it seems... maybe

Gameplay:

Just like your standard FPS

Thoughts: After a good deal of gameplay, I find that Soldier Front is not as bad as it seems for a free online FPS. The graphics are quite decent, considering you're playing on a standard PC. It may not be as detailed like Call of Duty 4, but for not having to pay, it's a good deal. The ability to customize your characters and specific weapons is what I love in FPS-type games, and the way Soldier Front delivers on this concept is done well. My only problem with Soldier Front is that the online play requires some experience in playing PC FPS. If you've only played shooters on consoles like Xbox or Playstation, then it may take some getting used to in order to really maximize your chances to winning. Also, there are some problems with online play. If you're completely new to the game, do not expect to survive very long in a game. However, this is usually the case in any competitive shooters. Other than that, I think Soldier Front is worth a try if you have some free time on your hands.

As always, questions, comments, thoughts, opinions are all welcomed.

I just need to figure out how to stop dying...

In one of the previous posts regarding gaming, someone (who shall remain unnamed) said that they could not play guitar hero for more a half hour without getting bored. One thing I would like to ask you (teen readers of the DPL TeenZone Blog), is do you think playing video games is a waste of time? If you are involved in an ongoing story, how is that different from reading fiction? Success in anything is directly proportional (err mostly) to the amount of time invested. So if you don't play, you probably are not very good and therefore don't enjoy it much. Just wondering!

For me, playing video games is a waste of time because I'm not interested in them...and I'd rather do something else, like read a book or spend time with family. But, for those who do play, I wouldn't say that it's a waste of time for them. It just depends on your interests and skills...In my case, I don't have the interest in videogames that those who do play have.

I don't feel that video games are a waste of time at all. Most serious gamers know that many hard earned hours of gameplay pay off in and outside of videogames. Video games are great stress relievers, and in many studies have been shown to improve hand-eye corrdination. Some vidoegames, like the Wii systems, even have a limited level of physical activity. For many people, video games can also give someone a sense of identity and respect not necessarily experienced in real life. Video games are stress-relieving, self-esteem boosting, and are just plain fun.

Well I have to agree to a certain extent that video games are not exactly a "waste of time". What I think though, is that video games should be played with moderation. I play video games when I have a spare few hours when I'm bored or have nothing really to do. Also, I'm one of the type of players who play a game from start to finish, but I don't replay games often. I think that video games are definitely a way to relieve stress, but playing too much video-games likewise can cause stress too (but that leads into another whole story of are video games good or bad for you). I think some more people should try out Soldier Front because it's not too bad for a PC shooter. It is definitely worth a try if you have some time on your hands.
