INKHEART - Another Book to Movie

Inkheart_150.jpg

It seems like every week they make a movie out of a popular young adult book. Some are better movies than others. Almost all were really good books. Well that is probably why they are making a movie of the book. The trailers usually look good. This is the case with the Inkheart Movie. I liked the book and the trailer looks great. After Harry Potter 5, however, I don't think I will run out and see it immediately.

In case you haven't read it, Inkheart by Cornelia Funke (The Thief Lord, Dragon Rider, and Inkspell) is a great fantasy. Meggie is a young girl whose father has a secret ability to bring characters from books to life when he reads aloud. The adventure takes off when a power-hungry villain from a rare children's fable kidnaps Meggie's father so he can force him to bring others out of fiction into our world. Meggie and some friends (both real and magic) embark on the kind of adventure she has only read about in books.

Ikenna [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Inkheart is one of my favorite books, but now that I hear it is turning into a movie I'm afraid it might join the ranks of pg-rated book-2-movie flops. To date, not a single fanatsy or teen book that I've read has translated well into a movie (with the exception of Lord of the Rings). Either the book is followed to closely (like Harry P. 5) or it isn't followed at all (Bridge to Terebithia). I think the key to a good book-movie is maintaining the fine line between preseving the author's message and creating something we'll pay money to see.

I like Inkheart too, and I agree with Ikenna: it will be a bad movie!
