"The Butterfly Project"

btfly2_200pix.gifThose of you who have been participating in the Mural Project, have already started to make butterflies, but I wanted to share the project with everyone.

The Project is sponsored by the Holocaust Museum Houston and the Hochberg Holocause and Human Rights Committee of Temple Bnai Israel in Willimantic, Connecticut is collecting the butterflies to send to Houston. Please check out the link to Temple Bnai Israel. You might want to look at the butterflies at the Houston Museum. If you get your butterfly to me, I will send all of them together.

Also, I have ordered the book, "I never saw another butterfly," and we are including it as one of the titles on the mural. Email or call me (203-797-4528) if you have any questions.

Poke @ the library in March and win!

teentexting_0310_150pix.jpgIt is time you start paying attention to this blog. Who knows, maybe you will win the Amazon.com gift certificate. It would be great to see one of my teen volunteers win; this is your chance to outsmart the adults. Check out the contest page. You have until the end of March. foursquare.com is fun. Maybe one of you will unseat Merry as Mayor of Danbury Library. Good Luck! If you need help finding or using any of these social networking tools, stop by Danbury Library Technology Center and have one of the Techies guide you through. And do comment here. I will give a small prize for the person who makes the most comments on my Blog during March.

Ultimate Gamers now have Guitar Hero World Tour

gh4_world_400pix.jpg

If you have not joined the Ultimate Gaming group on Wednesday evenings, you might want to make some time in December.

We started the group in 2006 and had a great year playing DDR (Dance Dance Revolution). Last year Guitar Hero was added. This fall we added the Wii, and most of the teens want to play Super Smash Bros.

But I just had to get GH4. Since 4 teens play at once, there is less time to wait for a turn. If we can add a larger TV to the Program Room equipment, it will be less painful for the gamers using the TV. I have been switching games between the overhead projector and the TV each week until we got GH4. The teens convinced me that 4 players would have to have a TV that is larger than the one currently in the Program Room.

We meet every Wednesday from 6 to 7:30. You will need to have a parent permission slip signed the first time you attend. If you have any questions, please call the teen librarian, Mrs. Harrigan at 797-4528.

Prizes include movie passes as well as twilight theme prizes from some of your favorite stores. If you don't care about prizes, come anyway for a spooky evening and nibble on vampire bites and ghoulish drinks.

But you have to call 797-4528 or come into the Library to register. There will be a limited number of participants in this program.

The library closes at 5 so you will have to enter through the West Street Emergency Exit. Don't be late or you may not get in.

referee2_150pix.jpg

Before you take off for the summer I wanted to remind you that the Summer Reading Program begins next week, June 16th.

Also, in addition to the Limo ride to school on the first day for a middle school student and a high school student, we have a Wii and and prizes to Golf Quest. Ultimate Gaming Cancelled

Sorry guys! Ultimate Gaming night is cancelled until further notice. We'll try to get it back up and running as soon as possible.

In the meantime, how about a book on gaming? Here's a list of books involving gaming.

January 08, 2008

See Movies and Play Video Games at the Library!

We're showing The Bourne Ultimatum here at the library on Friday, January 28th at 7:00 pm! Snacks, of course, are always on hand, so bring your friends and enjoy yourselves. Be sure to drop by the Junior Desk to pick up your free admission tickets. (More info!)

We show movies every month, so keep your eyes open for the next movie date!

Can't make it to the movie? Swing by the library Wednesday afternoons between 5:00pm and 6:30pm, where we've got DDR and Guitar Hero up and running in the program room! We've got snacks there too, to keep your energy up. Personally, I'm awful on GH, but I like to think I'm pretty good on the dance pad (on light, please!), so you might catch me down there with you some Wednesdays - some of you already have. See you then!

Oh, check out some photos from a previous Ultimate Gaming night in December.

By the way, what do YOU want to see, or play, at your library? If there's any movies you want to see here, or some new video games you think we should get, let us know! We'll see what we can do. We're hoping we can get maybe a Wii, and/or maybe Rock Band this year!!

Program Ideas Please

halologo_100pix.gif

masterchief_100pix.jpg
If you are a gamer, you know the release date of Halo 3. If you are a serious gamer, you have already reserved your copy.

This brings up a question I have put out before. I am planning to begin DDR the first Wednesday in October. Same time (6-7:30); same place (Program Room). But I want to expand the program to include other games. I am purchasing additional consuls so that we will have Guitar Hero and perhaps Madden NFL 07 or Mario Bros. My question is which consul should I get? We have the xbox and all the DDR games. The pads will not be problematic this year if I can help it. If you don't give me some ideas, then don't complain that I didn't get what you want.

HP_deathlyhallows_200pix.jpg

The Harry Potter Book Release Program is currently full. Only teens on the list will be admitted. See directions.

But don't give up hope. There is still room in the "Harry Potter" Trivia Program.

July 13, 2007

The third movie is scheduled for Friday, July 20th. Since book number 7 is released on Saturday, July 21st, we are starting The Prisoner of Azakaban at 9:30 p.m. The movie will end right before midnight. Registration is requires so call 797-4528 to reserve your place. The program is free and good snacks will be available

Check it out and plan to participate.

Need ideas on having a Gaming Night

imagefrgame_150pix.jpg

I need some feedback. Would anyone be interested in a gamming night. Setting this up and how to structure it is not as easy as it might appear.

What I need for you to do is let me know that you are interested. Also, tell me some of the games you would like to play and perhaps how you would like to see the program set up. Just email me, Dymphna Harrigan, Teen Librarian, or make your comments right here on the blog. Thanks..

First Night Canceled

hat_ana.gif New Year's Eve will not be as much fun as we were planning. First Night Danbury is canceled for this year.

Perhaps we can use the time on Tuesday afternoon, December 26th, to plan and have tryouts for the play, The Bookworm, which the Teen Council is performing in the Spring. Let me know (797-4528 or email) if you are interested as soon as possible.

Teens make First Night Puppets

Animation_200pix.gif First Night Danbury is happening again this year and the Teen council will get together to make the large puppets that lead a parade down Main Street to the Green. We plan to get together in the Program Room on December 26th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can drop in and stay as long as you wish. Come in for a few hours and make your own puppet or help other teens with their creations. Even if you can’t march on First Night, come in and help make the puppets anyway. And check out the Events Page to see what else is happening for teens at the Danbury Library.

Teen Council Project

SomeCast_200pix.jpg Teen volunteers have been bugging me for a while to do another play. We agreed at the monthly meeting to revise the play, The Bookworm. This works well for the little kids and it gives flexibility with teen parts.

The picture to the left is of the cast from the 2001 performance. Most of the teens in the picture have graduated or moved away. I hope to have even more teens involved in the 2007 production.

Anyone interested in joining Teen Council and being part of this project should call (797-4528) or email Mrs. Harrigan
