Teen Summer Volunteer Orientation - May 10 @ 10

Gp1_gd7_smartfix_500pix.jpg

If you have not received a letter and summer volunteer forms in the mail by now, you are not on the Teen Volunteer mailing list.

I sent out more than 130 letters and can only use about 70 teen volunteers. Well, I am only getting 70 T-shirts and that limits the number of volunteers I can use.

Many teen volunteers are active only during the school year. If you want to join Teen Council, pick up the forms on the second floor junior library. In addition to getting volunteer hours, you will make new friends and keep on top of the various programs offered by the Library.

If you have any questions, please contact me, Dymphna Harrigan, Teen Librarian (797-4528; IM Doomlibrarian).

pawprint2_150pix.gif This year the summer reading program is from June 18th to August 11th. Again we will need many teen volunteers to help with registration, assist with programs, and answer questions regarding the many programs we have.

The Volunteer Orientation is on Saturday, June 2nd from 10 to Noon on the 2nd floor of the library. If you have not received the forms, you can pick those up in the Junior Library or come to the meeting where you will receive applications and training.

First Night Canceled

hat_ana.gif New Year's Eve will not be as much fun as we were planning. First Night Danbury is canceled for this year.

Perhaps we can use the time on Tuesday afternoon, December 26th, to plan and have tryouts for the play, The Bookworm, which the Teen Council is performing in the Spring. Let me know (797-4528 or email) if you are interested as soon as possible.

Choose to Make a Difference

Some of you are already aware of a new club, DHS STAND that was recently approved by the administration at DHS. Kaberi, a longtime volunteer with the Teen Council, is the President and sent me the link to the new website. Go to the DHS STAND and learn what you can do. If you have not seen the video, “The Promise” Darfur STOP THE GENOCIDE, made by a group of DHS concerned students, you should. One major thrust of DHS STAND is to raise awareness, and I hope that many of you will explore the website and view the video.

Remember, you are the generation that can change the future.

Teen Volunteer Party

Last Friday, October 20, the Junior Library hosted a party and invited all 70 of the Teen Council volunteers. 50 teens attended and were busy from 6 to 10:30. Teens broke in the new DDR xBoxView image
version with all three games. Some teens watched the new Chronicles of Narnia MovieView image or surfed the computer. Many just hung out with friends,View image
but everybody ate and drank soda and water.

The Danbury Library held the party to say "thanks" to the many teen volunteers who help with the Summer Reading Program and other programs throughout the school year. A good time was had by all. Thanks for volunteering and thanks for helping clean up.
