What kind of medical care would you want if you were too ill or unable to express your wishes? Advance Directive are legal documents that allow you to convey your wishes to loved ones ahead of time about end-of-life care. They provide a way  to avoid confusion in communicating your wishes to family members and your healthcare providers.


Daniel O'Hare, PhD, is a consultant ethicist and works with the terminally ill and their loved ones.

Julia MacMillan, APRN, is a Palliative Care Coordinator and Co-Chair of the Danbury Health
Systems Ethics Committee.
